The Beginning
Offsite started simply, with friends sitting around talking about their favorite getaways and the deep meaning they have in their lives. Each of us had our spot: 30A, Stone Harbor, Nantucket, Sandy Bay, Jamaica. We had built histories and endless memories with family and friends at these special destinations. We all had work that took us everywhere, but we had found ways to weave these ‘offsites’ into our lives physically and mentally. These places have had a profound impact on us and have become an essential part of who we are. When we’re there, we’re our best selves and we regain balance. When we’re away, we carry that mindset with us for positivity and energy.
These once-separate worlds gradually blended over time, and we all shared similar happiness and calm in the convergence. Two worlds, one mindset.
The Moment of Discovery
We explored the concept over several years and realized this idea wasn’t just ours – it was shared by many people. “Where’s your offsite?” we’d ask. Echoed in each conversation, we heard from so many who hold such cherished spots close to their heart. It was clear this ‘Power of Place’ resonated broadly. Martha’s Vineyard, the Cape, Avalon, OBX, Kiawah, Sea Island, Ocean Reef…and many more. We’re sure you’re thinking of yours now. Everyone has ‘their spot’, and with it, a deep passion and even pride. The power of offsites was undeniable, and it was a much larger idea than one might initially think. We decided to build around the concept.
Building the Brand
We knew at its core what Offsite stood for, but how could we share and expand this idea to create a community? After some thought, we decided the best way was to create a brand (and company) that embodies these ideals.
We aimed to create a brand that helps you carry the spirit and power of your offsite with you wherever you go – a subtle reminder of your favorite spot and who you are when you’re there. Our focus was clear: create world-class gear that blends the lines between your work life and water life. Sophisticated, functional, technically superior, modern, authentic, and inspiring.
We looked widely to see if there was anything else out there like this. Couldn’t find it. No brand balanced these two worlds – work and water. It was either all business or too beachy, and none seamlessly integrated into the other. You know these brands, and you’ve used them out of necessity given limited options. [OR…, and you’ve used them, maybe begrudgingly.] They look jarringly out of place in the wrong setting.
So we set forward to fill what we thought was a meaningful gap.
And it should be noted, we are deeply grateful to our early investors who believed in our vision and invested behind us. They all had their own offsites too, and without their support, we couldn’t be where we are today.
First Product: Crafting the Ultimate Bag
The immediate question was what product fits both the boardroom and the beach house. A computer bag was the obvious choice, leading to the creation of the ‘Work to Water’ bag. It’s a marvel of design and engineering, perfect for both corporate settings and serene retreats – and the transition between the two. We crafted this bag with the finest materials – Dyneema for modern durability, AustriAlpin clips for strength, a wood-inlaid handle for elegance and a connection to nature. Every bag is unique and will wear differently for each owner. It took two years (a bit longer than we imagined) of detailed craftsmanship and innovation to create a product that transcends ordinary functionality and design. We went all in. Every detail meets the highest standards of luxury and quality, blending style with utility – and we think a little soul.
Forging a Meaningful Partnership
It would be a missed opportunity to not have a larger impact with Offsite – and you’ll be part of it. To give back to the places that inspire us, we partnered with Reefball.org, an organization renowned for creating artificial reefs. These marine-grade concrete structures are textured and hollow to provide a perfect habitat for marine life. Each bag purchase results in one reef ball being added to a rehabilitation project. We love the simplicity of the “One Bag, One Ball” concept, and you’ll learn more about the specific project you’re contributing to. The partnership couldn’t be more perfect to reflect our commitment to environmental responsibility. We’re excited about having a material, long-term positive impact on sustaining our waterways.
The Launch
On November 1st, 2024, Offsite was officially unveiled, marking five years since our journey began. Our meticulously crafted bags, symbols of our journey, were made available to those who share the Offsite ethos. We’re grateful that our community of “Offsiters” has grown rapidly, united by a shared appreciation for the power of place. With the perfect bag now a reality, we eagerly anticipate introducing new products that celebrate this unique lifestyle.
Our Vision
Now launched, we envision great things for the Offsite community – incredible gear, more innovation, exciting collaborations, and making a significant impact with our Seachange initiative. While water destinations are our initial focus, we also want to celebrate those whose offsites are in the mountains, on the trails, and at other awesome getaways. We see you! Offsite is more than a brand; it’s a community of like-minded individuals who appreciate the finer things in life and the power of place. We can’t wait to bring all these ideas to life and have you along for the journey.
The Movement
Join us in sparking a movement where everyone discovers their offsite and embraces it with passion. At Offsite, we believe in living fully – at work, play, every day.
as always
